The E.l.f. on my shelf.

primer

Recently, I had one of my oldest and best friends – E over to the house for a few drinks on Saturday night. Drinks on the back deck naturally ended with us sitting in my walk-in and purging all my drawers stuffed with beauty products. There are some products out there that I just love but don’t work for me and I tend to pass them along instead of chuck them because they might work better for someone else.

At one point E turned to me and with a surprised look holding a bottle of primer and said “You still use E.l.f?”Let me take you back 15 years to when E.l.f was not a brand that you could find up here in the Great White North (Canada) and I would stock up whenever we would go to New York and there was panic when my stash was running low.

I have tried so many different ridiculously expensive primers in my life – each claiming to be the best primer out there! In 2016, InStyle Magazinecame right out there and said theHourglass Veil Mineral Primerwas the one to beat. (They awarded it the Best Primer of 2016 Award) Obviously, I ran upstairs and jumped on the Sephora website to order my own $63.00 bottle of magic. ($63.00 + tax for ONE OZ?!?!)

Can you just listen to this one thing…. it is exactly the same as my E.l.f. Poreless Face Primer which costs me $7.97.  It is a total dupe. Plus, I love that it is infused with Tea Tree and Vitamins A&E. I have been using this for years and I haven’t found anything worth changing for.

Please save yourself the extra $55.03 by buying the E.l.f primer and then take your best friend for sushi with the savings. You can thank me later!

If you have ever tried either of these, please leave a comment and let me know what you think. Also, let me know if you want to see other drugstore dupes for high end products.

XOXO.

Food & Drink

Sangria is always a good idea.

There was a not so brief stage in my early 20s when you’d be able to find me at the bar every weekend. No, I wasn’t there to party… I was on the other side of the bar laughing at the party-goers and happily collecting their tips while adding to my Fashion Fund.

6 Years after getting paid to pour my last shot to Patron- I still seem to wear the Bartender hat around my friends. At every dinner party, bonfire, birthday party.. every everything I get asked to come up with a beverage for everyone.

Usually I would steer towards a cocktail with maximum alcohol and minimum mix or a strong and skillfully layered shot. Lately, I find that I have been all over sangria. I prefer a white or rose packed with pineapple, peaches, berries and a hint of mint for the summer months. Once the weather turns chilly, I switch it up to cranberries, pears (you can use apples instead but I am allergic to apple) and cinnamon sticks or honey. I like using white wine for my winter sangria also – just not the biggest red wine girl but you can use whatever you’d like.

Since we are kind of in-between seasons at the moment, I thought I would share my favorite summer and winter time recipes with you.

SUMMER SANGRIA

white

1 cup sliced strawberries

1 cup chopped pineapple

2 chopped / sliced peaches

1 cup raspberries

1/2 cup blueberries

1/2 cup pomegranate seeds

1 orange – sliced

♥ 1 bottle (750ml) of your favorite white wine

  3oz peach schnaps

1-2 cans of ginger ale

WINTER SANGRIA

2 honeycrisp apple – chopped (I opt for no apple and double the pear)

♥ 1 bartlett pear – choppedwinter.jpg

1 orange – sliced

1/4 cup pomegranate seeds

1/4 cup cranberries

2 cinnamon sticks

1 bottle (750ml) of your favorite white wine

2 1/2 cups apple cider (the fresher the better)

1/2 cup vodka

3oz cherry brandy

1 cup club soda (add this right before drinking)

PS – when making any sangria, I toss all the ingredients together (without the soda) and let it sit together in the fridge for a few hours before serving.

What is your go-to drink lately? Please let me know in the comment section if you try these recipes and what you think of them. Cheers!

XOXO.

Serious First Day of School jitters.

I am seriously experiencing the First Day of School jitters over here. A million thoughts rushing around my head at the same time, extreme nerves surfacing, and mixed emotions. Why? Deciding on the topic for my FIRST blog entry has me wrapped up in the cold sweats.

If my initial post is telling you about my fashion addiction and the newest member of my shoe closet, I lose my foodies and health seekers. If my first post is about the BOMB chicken and vegetable skewers I made for my boyfriend to BBQ tonight, there goes my girls looking for beauty tips and product reviews. Should we talk about my sweet little pug boy? I promise, I am not a crazy dog Mom – just a proud Pug Mom with no shame. Should we dive into home renovations and decor? …..

*Light bulb Moment*

I am just going to dive right into it with a mixture of everything and give you a glimpse into my world. ( I promises to post on the above mentioned topics also)

K first of all… It’s August! Not only that… It’s the end of August! I swear when I went to bed last night it was spring, where did the summer go? I am getting ahead of myself here because the month isn’t completely over yet but I thought it would be fun to share my August favorites with you. These products are not necessarily new products that launched this month but rather they are the items that I have found myself loving this month and reaching for more often than others.

August

flip flop

This summer I totally spoiled myself with these Valentino Rockstud flip flops but I had such a strong feeling that I NEEDED to own these. And I was right! They are so comfortable and completely adorable. These are a pricey flip flop and to make myself feel better about spending that much on flip flops, I’ve even found myself wearing them to walk the pug just to justify the splurge. They are tricky to find this late in the season but you can get them online at Bergdorf’s for $295.00 USD with free shipping. (* They are now sold out of black)

get your glow.jpg

Formula 10.0.6 is a winner for me right now. I tried a few different ones from their line but love the Get Your Glow On Skin-Brightening Peel Mask. It smells amazing and removes dead skin cells, unclogs pores and banishes breakouts. For my Canadian girls, you can pick these up at Walmart right now for $8.97 or at Ulta for my Americans.

tarte

This little jar of heaven has been a staple in my nightlight routine all summer. Tarte always has products that live up to my expectations but the Pure Maracuja Oil is on the top of my list. It is great and safe on any skin type and I have noticed a huge improvement in my dry skin. It is not necessarily a nightlight product, you can also mix it with your foundation for enhanced moisture and anti-aging benefits and it will leave you with a dewy, radiant finish. It is on the pricey side but totally worth it. For a travel size container, you can pick one up at Sephora for $19.00 or a 1.7oz for $60.00

mini matte.jpg

Being a diehard matte lip fan, I couldn’t pass up trying the Florence Fig shade from TreStique! It goes on like velvet, stays put, and doesn’t leave your lips dry or flaky (even when you re-apply). Plus, TreStique a cruelty-free brand so that makes it a total win win!! It is being sold at Sephora as a set (Matte Color & Shiny Balm Lip Crayon) for $40.00

trus fund.jpg

When it comes to my finger nails, I am a shellac girl all the way. But on my toes I prefer a regular type polish. Trust Fund Beauty has the most beautiful vegan polish I have seen. The shade I have been obsessing over is Champagne Socialite which is from a previous collection and is only available now from Amazon for $15.99 plus shipping.

earring

For years my go-to earrings were the Return to Tiffany Mini Heart Tag studs. I received these Michael Kors  ones a few years ago but never had the courage to change my habits and give them a try. They have now been discontinued and replaced by a similar MK style – Pave Logo Heart Earrings which you can find either at MK or the Bay for $75.00

crop.jpg

Since August is that weird kinda transitional month of the summer that is warm in the beginning and really cools down at the end, I have been reaching for sweater / ribbed tanks. If they are cropped, even better! Forever 21 always had a large selection of these for around $20.00 They look great on their own during the day with the sun out and layer really well for those chilly evenings.

Well, that is it from me for today and my favorites for August. Please leave a comment below and let me know what you think. Are any of these items on your favorites list this month?

XOXO.
