Yes, I am a little late to the Blaq party – please forgive me! I have been working up the courage to actually try these little babies out since I can be a total baby when it comes to peel off masks and that pain that can come with peeling them off.
Blaq is an Australian skincare line that is built around one core ingredient – activated charcoal. Activated charcoal has hit the ground running and become quite the trend in the beauty community the last couple of years promising to solve skin problems for all skin types. AKA – quick fix for those late wine filled nights and early mornings!
I was originally going online with the intent to purchase just the Blaq mask but I am a sucker and when I realized if you purchase 2 items, shipping is free of charge – well that changed the game for me. So, I went for the Meteor Shower scrub as well and I am glad that I did.
The Blaq Meteor Shower Scrub ($24.95) caught my eye. It’s the first body scrub I’ve ever seen that comes in a resealable pouch. The Meteor Shower Scrub is filled with fragments of matter from the cosmos, along with some of Blaq’s favorite natural ingredients, including activated charcoal.
I actually really liked this scrub, although it’s more of a dry scrub compared to other I’ve tried which tend to be of a creamier consistency. It’s very gritty so it actually feels like it’s exfoliating and sloughing off dead skin cells. When using the scrub, it does turn the areas you are applying it to gray but don’t freak out! It rinses clean as you rub the scrub into the skin and let the water run over the area. (The product did not stain my shower whatsoever, for those of you who were wondering.) The scent is rather unisex to me. It’s a fresh and natural type of smell. Not overly feminine and the scent does linger a bit on the skin. I did notice that the product gives a luminescence to the skin after you dry off. It’s almost like little tiny particles of shimmer, though not a lot. Just enough to give you a healthy glow.
Also, a super fun fact about the packaging – on the back there is a unique code which you can plug into the Blaq website and find out exactly where your scrub fell from. I plugged my code (75768) in and found out that my landing site was in Canyon Diablo, Arizona between 20,000 – 40,000 years ago!
The Blaq Mask Tube ($24.00) is an activated charcoal mask designed to target toxins and draw out impurities instantly. This product is perfect for those who suffer from blackheads and are looking for a way to get rid of them!
Since this is a peel off mask, it’s so important to start with fresh, clean skin that has just been washed and dried. You want your pores to be open for this. Before I started I washed my face with really warm water and then left a hot towel over my face for a minute. It spreads out really well and you can use either your fingers to spread or even a brush if you wanted to. Apply an even layer to your problem areas (I got brave and did my whole face) but be sure to avoid your lips, hairline, and eyebrows. Wait 15-20 minutes for the mask to dry. Then, starting at the bottom outer edge, slowly peel off the mask in an upward direction.
When I personally use peel masks, after they’ve dried, I make a huge smile a few times and it starts to loosen up the mask around my mouth and chin area – I probably look ridiculous while doing this but I don’t care! Then, I peel from the bottom up as directed.
I’ve used other activated charcoal masks and I’ve got to say that this one was much more powerful than the others I’ve tried. The scent is again, fresh and natural, as is the Meteor Shower Scrub. If you’re sensitive to scents, I don’t think either of these will bother you at all. I did notice my face was a little flushed in certain areas after removing the mask. (The Blaq website indicates that may happen) Not to worry though because the redness subsided within 20 minutes or so. Also, the mask easily washes off with water if you accidentally get it on your clothes or too close to your hairline/eyebrows. It also doesn’t stain so that’s a plus.
Overall, I am pretty impressed with my purchases. I love the shower scrub and will likely reorder when the time comes. As for the mask – I am certain this little tube will last me a long time for the sole reason that I am conflicted with peel off masks. I love the way my face feels after I have used them but I hate the peel off process and pain!
Also, I know I mentioned it above but if you order 2 or more products, shipping is free and right now if you join their mailing list you receive an additional 10% off your first order.
Have you tried any of the Blaq products? Leave me a comment and let me know if you have a favorite activated charcoal product. Also, if you have any tips or tricks for me when peeling them off so they don’t hurt so bad, I WANT TO KNOW!!
